At this library center, students will observe birds at a window birdfeeder (if you have a window), or on a web camera live feed such as the Cornell Lab Bird Cams
. Using library resources (either print or online), students will formulate 1-2 questions, then answer their questions and cite the resources they used. Though this product is designed to be used in a school library, it can be used just as easily as a literacy or science center in a classroom.
Product contents include:
✎ Center sign with "I will" statements in PDF and editable Word file formats
✎ Printable observation/research notebooks for students in 2 versions in easy-to-print PDF and editable
Microsoft Publisher file formats.
✎ Editable lesson plan aligned to PA Common Core and Academic Standards, National Common Core Standards, and AASL Information Literacy Standards (Microsoft Word .docx file format)
The "simple" notebook version has a simpler bibliography and shorter research section, while the "in-depth" notebook version has full citations for the bibliography and a longer research process to accommodate different grade or ability levels.

You will need some access to books and/or online websites about local birds for students to complete their research. I have included World Book Online™ as a resource in the bibliography notebook, but other databases or a collection of reliable websites would also suffice depending on your students' needs and information literacy skill level.
