This activity allows students to practice several intermediate math skills while also learning how to budget money.
They need to apply a basic understanding of percent and decimals to allocate their party budget to different categories (food, decorations, etc.)
Students have to multiply and add decimal numbers. You can allow them to use calculators or do all of the work by hand.
They have to research different items to buy on the internet or using store flyers.
The most interesting part is when they realize they might have to make some trade offs (for example buy frozen pizza instead of fresh so they have enough money left over for movie tickets). This is when they start to understand budgeting!
