Completely aligned to the NYS Common Core English Language Arts standards and embedding various types of instructional technologies, students dive head first into a research project disguised as an iMovie mini biography project. Perfect to facilitate with 7th grade students, students began by choosing a famous Black American figure. Then, students completed the following: research using the online databases, digital highlighting/annotating using Google Drive, completing a graphic organizer in Google Docs, writing a script of their person's biography in Google Docs, and using pictures, video, text, and audio to eventually create an iMovie biopic modeled after The Biography Channel's mini biographies series found on YouTube.
I completed this project for Black History Month; students created visual displays and attached their videos to QR codes. All throughout February, the student-made posters were on display and anyone could use a mobile device/QR scanner to access the student made videos! (Directions included!) Videos were also added to our Learning Management System for all within our building to easily view.
