This is a dialectical journal-style, chapter-by-chapter ongoing assignment that requires students to select a quote from each chapter, write it in the chart, then ask three questions about it, and follow up with commentary. This is used for the basis of a literary analysis essay (they can use the quotes in their essay). It also helps students practice recognizing significant passages and encourages critical thinking. I would check the quote in class upon completion of each chapter, so it's easy grading, too:) Can be homework or done in class and discussed.
