This document is a five-part writing project intended for use during and after a whole-class reading of Richard Wright's autobiography "Black Boy." The project centers on the personal narrative. In the first four parts, students are asked to reexamine a passage from the text and compose a piece of writing in Wright's style or that is thematically connected to the work. The final part is an assignment for a reflective essay. Includes a bonus writing assignment based on American Hunger, the second part of the autobiography that is often overlooked.
