This project was created to accompany a study of famous African Americans and their contributions to the United States. It asks students to choose a famous African American to research, but instead of writing the typical "report," students have the option to create a diary from the point of view of their chosen person (the entries must include significant events in the person's life), a photograph album of the person's life with appropriately labeled captions written by the student, OR a time capsule. Students are also asked to write a cinquain poem about their person. A poetry planner page is included to guide students through writing their poem. I gave students a month to work on their projects allotting class time for them to do so (although several of them chose to do additional work on their projects at home).
The following pages are included with this product:
Student instructions (gives details about each project choice and the requirements)
Letter to parents about project (requires student and parent signatures)
*I taught a lesson on Cinquains before assigning the project. That lesson is available in my store.
