PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This pack offers students in K-5 the opportunity to study pioneers in the fields of medicine (Dr. Daniel Hale Williams), technology (Garrett Morgan), educational integration (Ruby Bridges) and space exploration (Dr. Mae Jemison).

Garrett Morgan
Garrett Morgan is known for inventing the precursor to the yellow wait light. Students make their own stop lights on a triangular prism and fill the other two sides with information.

There are six different inlays for student input, and four information inlays about Garrett Morgan. Perfect for K-5 and each traffic stop sign can be as individual as you want them to be!

Please note, you will need 18"x9" construction paper in yellow or black to make the stop light frame.

Younger students will need help and guidance gluing the prism together (it is two over-lapping panels). All directions and photographs are included.

Ruby Bridges
Students create their own school satchels for Ruby Bridges. Four items in the satchel (milk, apple, banana and cookie) can be used to record character traits. Templates are in black and white and can be run directly onto construction paper.

What's included:
•Step-by-step directions with photographs
•Templates with directions for running directly onto construction paper
•A choice of two school ID cards - one completed and one blank
•Writing paper template with broken lines or solid lines depending on the needs of your students
••Please note, you will need 12" x 18" construction paper in black or brown to make the satchel.••

Dr. Mae Jemison
In addition to being a brilliant scientist, engineer, computer software analyst and doctor, Mae Jemison was also the first African American female astronaut.

Younger students will need help and guidance cutting smaller parts. All directions and photographs are included.

Dr. Daniel Hale Williams
Daniel Hale Williams qualified as a doctor but was not allowed to work in hospitals because he was black. He established the Provident Hospital, the first hospital to have racially integrated staff. He also became famous as the second surgeon to have successfully performed open heart surgery (without the benefit of antibiotics).

Students create their own medical identification card for Dr. Williams to go in his medical kit bag. Templates are in black and white and color and also differentiated with three different writing inlays.

To enhance the medical kit bag you will need small medical supplies commonly found in schools, such as:
band-aids
q-tips
tongue depressors
antibacterial wipe packs
cotton balls
••Please note, you will need 18"x9" construction paper in black or brown to make the medical kit bag.••
All directions and photographs are included.
