This project allows your students to explore black history through a monument analysis of five monuments celebrating people and moments in black history. Students will also do a mini-research project in order to design a monument for an influential person they research.

This resource is available as a PDF to print out for students AND as a digital resource.

Printable PDF includes:

-Five QR-code posters (with urls for those who don't have a QR code scanner) linking to websites with visuals and descriptions of various monuments devoted to influential people and historical moments in black history.

-Graphic organizer to lead them in the monument analysis. These organizers cover tone, theme, what is emphasized, what is absent, and more for each monument. Answer sheets are included.

-Graphic organizer to guide their research of an influential black figure of their choice. This is a good opportunity to help students discover new leaders and influential figures they may not be aware of.

-Graphic organizers to help students pull information from their research to design their own memorial. Student worksheets guide students to include specific symbols and details in order to create specific tones and themes within their memorials.
