PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This bundle of resources includes four items at a discounted price. All of the resources include answer keys. Please have a look at the preview files!
1) Black History Makers 26 Graphic Organizers is a great resource for Black History Month and as well, can be used at any time of the school year.
--- The organizers are designed for students to do general research on each person. They will need access to the Internet in most cases and may find some books helpful. Each organizer asks the student to provide general biographical information as well as information on their achievements. With the exception of Dumas and Sancho, students should be able to find everything they need from www.biography.com but there is no reason they cannot use other sources as well;
--- There are 26 organizers in all for the following people:
Maya Angelou, Kofi Annan, George Washington Carver, Frederick Douglass, Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, Marcus Garvey, Josiah Henson, Langston Hughes, Michael Jackson, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, Thurgood Marshall, Toni Morrison, Barack Obama, Rosa Parks, Colin Powell, Jackie Robinson, Wilma Rudolph, Ignatius Sancho, Haile Selassie, Harriet Tubman,Desmond Tutu, Booker T. Washington, George Washington Williams, and Oprah Winfrey.
--- I chose the 26 subjects from a variety of fields and countries and I hope the representation is fair, if not complete!

2) Five Days with Frederick Douglass is designed as a multi-purpose informational reading and writing assignment unit for middle school students. It can be equally utilized in an ELA class or a Social Studies class. Each of the four biographical passages can be used one at a time, but in sequence. The resource also includes:
--- a quiz in two sections - it could be given at one time or split into two sessions;
--- a vocabulary activity - students choose a synonym that best matches a word (used in the passages) underlined in the provided sentences. The sentences provided also reinforce what they have learned by reading the four passages about Frederick Douglass.
--- Each of the biographical passages has questions (comprehension and opinion) on the right side of the page - they can therefore be used in class as bellringer activities.
--- Each one also has a “Language Use” activity or a short writing assignment.
