This unit, Black History Writing for Little People, was written with a couple of objectives in mind. First and foremost, I wanted to provide authentic and skill-leveled writing opportunities for our kids. I then paired that with learning social studies and you have this unit for the primary learner! It is suitable for grades 1 and 2; Kinders could use with more assistance.
There are 24 African American Greats included. For each Great there is a set of 3 printables. Two of them have graphic organizers, one of them is not labeled should you wish to use your own headers. Within the entire product there are 5 different organizers that ask your students to do a variety of skills from listing facts to comparing themselves to the Great. So there are many different skill levels reached throughout the unit. On these pages there is one to two sentences that help to explain who the person is also. Finally, there is a writing page with the picture of the Great. I've included lined pages with no pictures should you have some high flyers that can write more. There is a cover included also should you want to make a booklet out of the pages.
This is a great opportunity for your kiddos to practice their budding writing skills and learn about Black History at the same time!
