This is a fun activity to use during Black History Month (February). A few of my students even asked to take some home as I was creating. The packet features 8 historical figures: Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglas, Rosa Parks, Booker T. Washington, Sojourner Truth, Jackie Robinson, Gwendolyn Brooks, and George Washington Carver.
There are three types of copies in case you have a preference of how you want to teach:
1. There is a completed cootie catcher: with photos, questions, and answers. (This I would use with younger grades and let them use it as a fun reference.)
2. There is a partially completed cootie catcher: with photos and questions. With a faded image in the center so that students can use reference books or the internet to search for and write the answers. Afterwards, they can quiz their friends.
3. There is a mostly blank cootie catcher: with photos and faded images. This would be used for higher grades. Students will use reference books or the internet to search for and write questions and answers. Afterwards, they can quiz their friends or turn in as an assessment.
