Product Description
An African Story Vine is a great way to incorporate a month full of fabulous literacy during "Black History Month". The story vine was a way that stories could be transported from Africa, when slaves left bringing very little else with them. Included you will find all the contents needed to create an African Vine for the whole month of February.

First, simply get a fake vine at the craft store (or a thick rope from the hardware store) and find a spot to display it in your classroom. You will hang the tags found in this packet on the vine, each representing a story on the bibliography. This packet not only includes a suggested bibliography of books to be used for this activity, the makings for individual student booklets for writing about each story, a tag representing each story to hang on your vine, quotes to decorate your classroom in February, and blanks of all parts of the packet so you can individualize it with your favorite stories too.

All stories included on the bibliography are about famous African Americans, have a character who is African American, or are African folktales. As a class or on your own schedule, you pick or have a student pick a particular tag, discuss how the symbol on the tag reminds you of or represents the story, then read the story aloud to the class, and finishing up by having your students respond in writing on the enclosed packet. Students can store the packet in their writing folder for the month and complete each story one at a time as each is read aloud.

Some of the amazing stories included are:
•The Snowy Day
•The Other Side
•The Story of Ruby Bridges
•Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain
•Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock.
•Anansi and the Talking Melon
•Anansi Goes Fishing
•Anansi and the Magic Stick
•Flossie and the Fox
•Richard Wright and the Library Card
•Zomo the Rabbit
•Too Much Talk
•How Giraffe Got Such a Long Neck
•Three Wishes
•Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters
•The Patchwork Quilt
•Raymond Floyd- There are No Bears in Africa

This is a unique way of sharing these fabulous stories with your students in a timely and relevant manner.
