This center is a great way to involve your youngest students in celebrating Black History Month, while practicing beginning sounds at the same time!
This is a center activity that includes 25 half-page cards, each focusing on a different Black History Great. The cards ask the students to find the pictures that begin with the same letters as the Black History Greats name.
For example, one card says "I spy some pictures that begin with the same letters as in Ruby Bridges." The R and B are underlined to show the students the beginning sound letters. Then there are 7 pictures on the card. The student must find all the pictures that begin with the R and B sound. They can circle them with a dry erase marker, or place a chip on the pictures.
This would be an awesome learning experience for small RTI groups, or in literacy centers. It's a great way to add in some social studies as well.
