Description

Prepare students for the rigors of state reading tests with these African-American biographies and constructed response, text dependent questions. Use these in February for Black History Month and throughout the spring! Study 9 influential, African-American Heroes while practicing responding to constructed response and extended response questions using text evidence (RACE writing strategy).

Each biography comes with coordinating open-ended questions, directing students to use text evidence in their responses, aligned with Common Core standards for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. The passages challenge students to interact with rigorous, but interesting and relevant informational text. This is the perfect resource to help you prepare your students for upcoming state tests like PARCC and SBAC.

Digital included: Each of the biographies and questions are provided in Google Slides as individual files. Students read the text, highlight evidence using the built in highlighters, and write their written responses with the prefilled text boxes. The text is provided in a readable format for screen readers allowing for easy accommodations. Each digital version is provided with an easy access link.
