Student Talk Show

Your students will work in groups of four to plan and present a talk show. One student will represent the host and the three remaining students should each choose to represent an African American historical figure. Assuming the role of historical figures, your students will discuss various issues such as the historical figures' childhoods, their experiences, challenges they faced and their successes. The product includes a brief introduction, a detailed explanation of the structure of the talk show, a rubric and a list of ten sample host questions to help give your students ideas, as well as a planning guide and editing checklist.

Create a Board Game

This project is a really fun and creative way for students to show off what they learned about historical figures that represent Black History Month. Students will create the rules and directions for the game, create the required pieces, and create a colorful and detailed board game. Design the Book Jacket of a Biography

One of the best ways to learn about historical figures is by reading biographies. Your students are going to design the biography book jacket of a historical figure in honor of Black History Month. In doing so, they'll show off what they learned about his or her achievements and accomplishments. A book jacket includes the front cover, spine and back cover of the book. Newspaper Project

This project gives students the opportunity to delve deep into the experiences and lives of famous African Americans in honor of Black History Month. While there is a lot of room for creativity and an opportunity for originality, students will base their information on historical evidence. The product comes with a detailed explanation of each component required in the newspaper and a detailed rubric. Students will include the following components in their newspaper: title, news story #1, news story #2, editorial, interview, advertisement, Dear Abby, and an obituary. Redesign the Dollar

Your students have just been hired to redesign the American dollar bill in order to reflect the life, goals and achievements of a chosen historical figure in honor of Black History Month. Students will also have the opportunity to complete a chart to learn the significance and meanings of the phrases and images on the current U.S. dollar bill.
