Product Description

Celebrate Canadian Black History Month with this research project and art activity. The art project, a class quilt display, makes a beautiful bulletin board. The resource contains reading passages on 20 influential people important in Canadian Black history. Students can use the brief information to complete the writing activity or use the information to help make a decision on who to research more in depth. After the individual pages are completed, they fit together to create a large class quilt.

There are 5 different ways to create the Canadian Black History Quilt - which means it's easy for you to differentiate the activity to meet the needs of your students. There are also two different quilt size patterns to choose from, (4 squares per page or 2 squares per page. Choose the size that you best suits your needs.) There are 2 headers/titles for your quilts (color and b/w) also.

Here's What's Included:

  • Information on 20 Influential Black Canadians: Viola Desmond (activist), Portia White (singer), Willie O'Ree (NHL hockey player), Harry Jerome (teacher and Olympian), Elijah McCoy (inventor), Raymond Lewis (Olympian), Deborah Miller-Brown (athlete), Chloe Cooley (slave/activist), Allan Bundy (combat pilot), Lucille Hunter (gold prospector), William Hall (Victoria Cross recipient), Sam Langford (boxer), Carrie Best (publisher/radio host), Addie Aylestock (minister), Peter Butler III (police officer), Violet King (lawyer), Anderson Abbott (physician), Amelia Johnson (author/editor), John Ware (rancher), Leonard Braithwaite (lawyer/politician)
