Celebrate Black History Month
African American Heroes: Responding to Text-Based Inferential Questions
Honor Black History Month by studying 9 influential, African-American Heroes. This unit helps guide students through writing quality responses to constructed response (short answer) and extended response questions using text evidence with biographies on 9 common, and not so common, African-American Heroes. Each passage comes with coordinating questions, using text evidence in responses, aligned with Common Core standards for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. The passages challenge students to interact with rigorous, but interesting and relevant, text. This is the perfect resource, during February for Black History Month, or at anytime, to help you prepare your students for the upcoming state tests like PARCC, while still providing meaningful instruction not focused on test-prep.
African-American Heroes included:
→Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
→The Little Rock Nine
→Booker T. Washington
→Madam C.J. Walker
**The complete passage and questions for Martin Luther King, Jr. is provided for free at:
