PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

In 1946, Viola Desmond, a Black Canadian woman, refused to move from a seat in the White section of a theatre in Nova Scotia. This lesson plan is meant to pair with Jody Nyasha Warner and Richard Rudnicki's VIOLA DESMOND WON'T BE BUDGED.

This lesson was created for a Grade 5 class in British Columbia. It matches with the Big Ideas in Grade 5 Social Studies. I used it during Black History Month, but it would work year-round.
