The National Society of Black Engineers is a hidden treasure in the Black Community and it is an organization that needs to be highlighted. With more than 30,000 members, the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is one of the largest student-governed organizations in the country. Founded in 1975, NSBE now includes more than 394 College, Pre-College, and Technical Professional/Alumni chapters in the United States and abroad. NSBE’s mission is "to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community."
The purpose of this activity is to familiarize students with historical and current activities surrounding black history makers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, and inspire other teachers, parents, and students to join or start other chapters of the National Society of Black Engineers. This activity can be used as a work period, sub - planned or homework activity. It contains a zip file of 2 brochures about NSBE along with a webquest or internet scavenger hunt activity with a teacher's answer key.
