    Black History Month Bonus Announcements

Looking for Black History Month resources specific to Canada? Look no further!

This bundle was created to integrate the history and culture of Black Canadians into the curriculum. As a primary teacher, the month of February is so jam-packed with celebrations to recognize. There’s no need to restrict activities or discussions related to Black History to February!

This bundle is growing - more to be added!

    Canadian Black History Virtual Celebration

    Kindergarten - Grade 2

Celebrate Black History with a scavenger hunt, directed drawing, estimation game, making words activity, music listening activity, dances, movement activities, and book suggestions!

Picture Book Responses - includes Google Slides version

    Text Connections - Grades 1-2

    Comprehension Checks - Grades 2-3

Share these great read alouds at any time of the year. Many of the picture books were written by Canadian authors or feature Canadian settings and characters. I’ve included some popular picture books about African Americans and some of my favourite fables and folktales.

    Posters with Quotes, Quote Journal

    Posters - Grades 1-3

    Quote Journal - Grade 3

Create a display with these posters featuring quotes from black Canadian and American leaders (plus Nelson Mandela, of course!). Use this as a springboard to learn more about these great people and their accomplishments! For higher grades or students, I've also included a journal booklet for children to respond to each quote.

S.T.E.A.M. Challenges - includes Google Slides version

    Grades 1-3

These STEAM (or STEM) Challenges feature reading passages about black Canadian figures. The tasks will work in a library or classroom Makerspace. There is no set material list so put out whatever you have available and let your students get to work!

    Grades 1-3

Create a display with these posters featuring black Canadians. Use this as a springboard to learn more about these great people and their accomplishments!

    Reader's Theatre

    Grades 2-3

Discover African folktales while practicing fluency with this set of reader's theater scripts. Includes 5 stories plus a script about Viola Desmond.

Kwanzaa Mini Book - includes Google Slides version

    Grades 2-3

Celebrate Kwanzaa with this informative reader! It goes into some detail about the traditions of the holiday and includes writing and drawing prompts.

As a bonus for purchasing the bundle, I'm adding morning announcements! They are included in 2 formats - a PDF for morning announcers to read and also a Google Slide deck if your school posts announcements online.
