    Do you need engaging, reading passage activities about women in Black history?

    Based on rap songs, these activities will keep your students' attention using song lyrics as reading passages while they practice a variety of reading skills. Easily incorporate them into independent activities or complete them together as a class lesson. The songs for these activities explore the lives, challenges, and accomplishments of four influential Black women.

    - Harriet Tubman, conductor of the Underground Railroad

    - Sojourner Truth, abolitionist and women's rights leader

    - Maggie Walker, the first female bank president

    - Phillis Wheatley, accomplished poet and the first published Black American

    - and Phillis Wheatley's communication with General Washington during the American Revolution

    Teach reading skills to your students in a way that they will enjoy!

    Kids love music and will certainly enjoy learning about famous women in history while practicing reading skills using these rap songs. Students will listen to the history songs while following along with the lyrics. Students will then use the lyrics to deepen their understanding of these women by practicing reading comprehension, context clues, sequencing and other reading skills that are listed below.
