African Americans and the Civil War is a display for Black History Month or anytime during the Civil War sesquicentennial. More than 180,000 African Americans fought in the Civil War and served in the Union Army. This packet is about those African Americans. It includes text and 25 images. Information in this packet was gathered from repositories including the Library of Congress and the National Archives. The packet is about blacks and the role they played in the war that divided the nation. It includes an image of a slave market in Georgia, an advertisement for “Colored Troops,” and pictures of great men who fought in the war…, plus much…much more. The packet is 25 pages and prints on 8.5 x 11 paper. The display should be printed on card stock or on regular paper and laminated. The packet was created by Kathy Trusty of the African American History Place.
