Product Description
The Blank Symbols Kit is compatible with the sequence of instruction and the orthography presented in the book, Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. This kit provides a fun, hands-on way to reinforce the sound-symbol associations taught within the book.

Many children enjoy coloring and/or decorating the corresponding symbol after an introductory lesson. While the child works to color and/or decorate a symbol, encourage the child to repeat the sound and to engage in dialogue about the materials being used to decorate it.

As each symbol is colored and/or decorated, it can be organized into a binder. The binder of symbols provides a way for children to review and share the sound-symbol associations that they have been taught.

Example:
After completing Lesson 12 of Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons, decorate the blank “d” symbol found within this kit with dots, dimes, or any variety of stickers/images that begin with the sound /d/. While the child works on the craft, ask questions such as:

TEACHER/PARENT: “What sound are you coloring in?”
STUDENT: “/d/.”

TEACHER/PARENT: “What are you using to decorate your /d/?”
STUDENT: “Dimes.”

TEACHER/PARENT: “What sound do you hear at the beginning of ‘dimes?’”
STUDENT: /d/.”

TEACHER/PARENT: “Can you say the sound /d/ as you place each dime?”
STUDENT: “/d/ /d/ /d/ /d/.”
