When tutoring math students in grades K-4, it's pretty easy to see that many schools are using mastery programs such as Rocket Math or Spaceship Math. These programs require students to have accurate recall of mathematical concepts as well as speed in their written response times.
Unfortunately, many students are unable to reach the minute goals and are failing, not because they don't know their facts, but rather, they simply cannot write fast enough, or their minds are not thinking in mathematical terms; so they take a little longer to process the function.
This program aims to remedy that problem by introducing students to the mastery program with simpler concepts. It could be started in Kindergarten as a primer or used throughout the earlier grades in remedial programs. I personally am using it with 2 of my current students, both special needs, working at 1-3 grade levels lower than their current grade.
Section II includes:
*Goal setting and record tracking.
*Daily practice sheets (similar to 2 minute Rocket Math Tests), 4 different arrangements for each level.
*Smaller (half sheet) take-home pages with notes to parents. (Also in 4 different arrangements)
*Cummulative Reviews (every 2 levels, similar to SpaceShip Math 5 minute tests).
*A Section Review similar to the goal setting from the beginning of the program to mark improvement.
*2 sets of number flashcards covering the entire Series of numbers, one set red one set blue for playing matching games, concentration or memory games, or for partner practice.
