Students just learning how to read and using a phonetic approach will benefit greatly from this 19 puzzle printout. It is a special crossword puzzle style where the students are only looking for blends – not words. It engages their brains to look just for those special sounds. Ultimately, it helps cement in their thought process this important step in learning how to read.
Note: An answer key has been provided for each puzzle. The blends only go horizontal and vertical – making it easy for the young learner to spot. Each puzzle has 6-8 (a couple may have 9) blends to find. Using different colored crayons or pencils to color in the blend boxes or to circle them adds a fun element to the task. This resource does not include the CV blend for X.
I hope you enjoy this fun, “big-kid” activity with your little one(s).
A follow up resource (Blends Hide n' Seek & Add a Consonant Dash) is available as well. Either of these resources can be used individually but if you would like to purchase both, please check out the bundle option to save a little bit of money.
