Blending Sounds Cards Activity and Posters Science of Reading

With this activity, students will focus on the foundational skill of blending. Build, assess, progress monitor, and teach students to monitor their own progress toward reaching their learning goals with this blending success criteria poster set, blending cards (use for CFA), data and progress monitoring forms.

In addition to the product, I have included some ideas on how to use the formative assessments blending cards and forms. I recommend printing, cutting, laminating, hole punching, and placing the blending cards on a binder clip.

Included in This Resource Are the Following Cards and Forms:

1. 3- different sets of cards to practice blending, separated by phonics skill as follows:

- each card has 10 words, 30 cards per set (same words are used in each set)

- 1 set has a dot under each sound

- 1 set has a dot under blends, digraphs, and individual sounds

- 1 set has no dots

Sounds include:

- cvc (all short vowels a,e,i,o,u)

- l blends

- r / s blends

- ending blends

- digraphs (ch, sh, th, ph, wh, and trigraph tch)

- long vowels (a_e, e_e, i_e, o_e, u_e)

- soft c / g

- oo (as in good)

- long vowels (vowel teams: ai, ay, ea, ee, o, ow, oa, oe, igh, ie, ey/y- both long i and e sounds)

- R controlled vowels (ar, er, ir, ore, oar, or, ur)

- Diphthongs (ou, ow, oi, oy, oo- as in moon, ew, ui, ue, au, aw, augh)

- Silent letters (gn, wr, kn)

- Three letter blends (str, thr, spl)
