Learning to blend phonemes into words can be a challenge. This interactive learning tool will help students practice in a novel and effective way.
I introduce this activity whole class during core instruction, but it’s also valuable for small group instruction or working with individual students. It can be used for intervention or enrichment depending on the level of your students.
This Power Point preview includes more than 30 cvc words with short o, plus a few challenge words. As each slide comes up, a cvc word will appear, one letter at a time. Students respond with the sound of each letter as it appears, and then blend the sounds into a word.
A click of the mouse will advance the slide show to the next word.
How My Class “Plays”
When we practice and review, my kids love to make it competitive. We divide into two teams, with each taking turns blending a word. (If you’ve already played as part of a lesson, most kids should have little or no trouble reading them.) There’s 100% engagement—everyone wants to read the word their team, or the other one, is responsible for.
