Need new word work ideas for blends? These cut and paste phonics printables are a great way for your students to practice blending, segmenting, spelling, and sorting words with beginning and ending blends.
Three levels of sorts are included for each of the following spelling patterns:
• bl, cl, and pl
• fl, gl, and sl
• tr, dr, and pr
• br, cr, and gr
• ld and lf
• lp, lt, and lk
• mp and pt
• nd, nk, and nt
• sw, sn, and sm
• sp, st, and sk
Includes 30 total sorts!
The first level of each page asks students to trace the word representing the picture shown and then cut, sort, and paste the words onto the recording sheet. (I use this level with my ELL newcomers and some special education students.) The mid-level version asks students to fill in the missing blends and then cut, sort, and paste. The most challenging version asks students to write the words before cutting, sorting, and pasting them. (When using this final set, you may need to take a moment go over what each picture represents orally before students begin.)
These activities address the following Common Core Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.1.2: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.1.2.D: Use conventional spelling for words with common spelling patterns and for frequently occurring irregular words.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.1.2.E: Spell untaught words phonetically, drawing on phonemic awareness and spelling conventions.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.2.2: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.2.2.D: Generalize learned spelling patterns when writing words (e.g., cage → badge; boy → boil).
