Students just learning how to read and using a phonetic approach will benefit greatly from this 16 puzzle printout. This is the follow up to the Blends Hide n’ Seek resource but can be used alone. In that resource, students only look for CV Blends. It engages their brains to look just for those special sounds. This follow-up resource uses that same platform and then we added a consonant at the end of CV Blends to create CVC words. Ultimately, it helps cement in their thought process this important step in learning how to read.
Note: An answer key has been provided for each puzzle. The CVC words only go horizontal and vertical – making it easy for the young learner to spot. Each puzzle has 6-8 (a couple may have 9) CVC words to find. Using different colored crayons or pencils to color in the CVC word boxes or to circle them adds a fun element to the task.
We have eliminated the letters Qu, V, X and Z due to the difficulty of finding adequate words that start with these sounds.
I hope you enjoy this fun, “big-kid” activity with your little one(s).
