If you are looking for a FUN way to incorporate sensory play into your math stations, then this 2-pack printable is for you this winter! It's not always easy finding ways to play AND learn once students are out of PreK-K, BUT Blizzard Beach uses the best of summer & winter as older children dig with sand shovels in sand (or sugar!---it looks like tropical sand, right?) for missing addend snowflakes!
Once a snowflake has been dug up, children solve for the missing addend and then record their answer. You can make this activity self checking, or simply look to the recording form for part of your assessment. There are a *bazillion* missing addends to be found in this blizzard. Can your students dig themselves out of the winter storm? Don't forget to wear your shades! Good luck!
ALSO - in Blizzard Beach Measurement, students will work on 1.MD.2 - measuring using non-standard units. Students will draw a beach themed object and measure with snowflakes (provided). Simply print, laminate & put out for student use. You shouldn't have to do much more than review this concept with your firsties since they've been introduced and practiced measuring in Kdg. This makes it great for an independent math station. Recording form also included.
See you on the beaches of the tropical mathematical islands!
