This is a chapter by chapter novel study of Blood on the River: James Town 1607 by Elisa Carbone. Designed for use in 5th grade and includes a detailed analysis of the Florida State Social Studies Standards covered by this novel. Each chapter has multiple extended response questions for students to respond to and also includes charts for vocabulary words picked from the text. Questions are designed to cover many different Language Arts standards. Also included is a full answer key and multiple writing prompts along with multiple vocabulary graphic organizers for word work. Can be used for guided reading or other uses. I use this as a read aloud activity due to the different reading instructional levels of my students. I read aloud one chapter a day from the novel and we discuss the text as well as vocabulary. During small group instruction the groups that are at centers complete the novel study questions for that days chapter. Our vocabulary center is also focused on the words from this novel.
