Finally, Blooms Taxonomy at a primary level!! Our district has asked that we set instructional outcomes using Blooms Taxonomy at a highly effective level while asking our students to self assess to determine where they fit on the spectrum. I found this very difficult to use the words Knowledge, Comprehension, Apply, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation to a degree of how well or how deep we know something in first grade. I tried to adapt the Blooms Taxonomy to work with words we use day to day in our classroom. My students actually understand Blooms as knowing something bigger and deeper than ever before! On day one, we are at ‘knowledge’ and we strive to get all the way to the top to be ‘evaluated’ but as the year progresses we are all at different levels on the spectrum. I remind the students throughout the week to think of where they are on the spectrum. Are you blooming? I hope this will help you add a little Blooms Taxonomy to the thinking of your little ones!
