This pack contains Bloom's Taxonomy activities about the book Matilda written by Roald Dahl. This children's favourite story can be used in many ways in your classroom, from encouraging reading to creating a classroom theme. The activities involve identifying key characteristic traits, drawing images based on reading visualisation, comparison of film and story, analytical research, establishing themes and key messages, making judgements about character decisions and creating new ideas about the text.
Using Blooms Taxonomy Framework, this resource will enable you to use it as a tool for higher order thinking. For best results, students should have finished reading the entire book before commencing this table. If you like you can work from column to column as you progress through the story.
An example of a Create Task is to design their own "Chokey" Invention. This will allow them to take on the mind set of Miss Trunchbull and create something unique that would also fit the same purpose. Once they have developed their idea on paper, they can then create a replica of their design using assorted craft. They must provide a description on their design and how it operates. Refer to the book when the Chokey was introduced as a descriptive guide.
This framework can be used as an independent task or a homework extension for students that need an extra challenge. It allows you to date when they have completed a task so you can keep track of their progress. In the classroom, I like them to finish at least 3 activities before advancing to the next skill set.
As a heads up, some of these activities will prove to be of more value when completed together as a whole class, and therefore you may want to select those activities and use them as class competitions or whole class learning experiences.
