Rhythm cards with text: Divide students into small groups printing one set of cards per group. Each group chooses a predetermined number of cards (4, 8 or 16) and arranges them to their liking. Students practice and perform. For an extension, students can compose a melody for their composition, add rhythm instruments or create an ostinato to layer over the top. Also, student compositions can be alternated with a spring song for an instant rondo!
Rhythm cards (no text): Print one set of rhythm cards for each student. Student may then create their own text for each rhythm. A great activity for partner work or music centers.
Text cards (no rhythms): Print one set of cards for each student, and one set of rhythm cards with text for the teacher. Teacher reads the text while students must search for the correct matching rhythm; the first student to hold up the correct rhythm wins a point! This is also a great activity for partners or music centers. Simply choose one student to be the leader, reading the text, while the others must find the correct rhythm.
