Cut out these sentence starters, glue them to different colored card stock, laminate, and presto! You're very own, easy to use sentence starters!
I use these with my students who are beginning to transition from picture communication to verbal language and children who have difficulty including articles in sentences. The picture symbols above the words, as well as different colored backgrounds (card stock) further help the children discriminate between different sentence types.
Use with bingo games! I use my sentence starters with picture word bingo by placing the bingo tiles in a hat or themed container (pumpkin, beach basket, heart basket, etc). When it's my turn I'll ask the child "What do you see?" When it's their turn to pick out of the hat I'll ask the child "What do you want?"-- to ask for the hat, and then "What do you have?" once they choose an item from the hat.
These sentence starters can be used with any game that contains pieces to chose (numbers, colors, vocabulary, etc). There's even a space to place the item/picture card/etc at the end of the sentence!
Each of my teachers have a copy of these as well and use them in the classroom to encourage spontaneous language during circle time and free time...they love them!
