Students work with partners in this memorable activity. Each student must measure various lengths of his/her partner. When pairing up certain lengths, interesting patterns are discovered. The first three combinations result in nearly exact measurements. The final three combinations result in what is called the Golden Ratio, which is roughly 1.61. The Golden Ratio can be found in nature and all over the human body. Also, it is found in the Fibonacci Sequence.
This is a great hands-on activity for your students. It is also a fun homework assignment students can do with family members.
