Yes, Students HATE Writing but Please Persevere! Writing is a Necessary Skill!
The first PowerPoint consists of 23 slides and will teach students a 5 step process of how to write body paragraphs. The process is a no-brainer and will help students simply "plug-in" their information in a correct format.
An example prompt, introduction, and body paragraph is given on the PowerPoint for students to understand the 5 steps.
Three reading passages are provided on a separate handout. With the class, one passage will be read aloud. Together, the class will write a thesis and a body paragraph for the prompt given.
Guided practice and modeling will help to facilitate the writing process for your students.
The second Power Point consists of only 8 slides but will further allow students to continue to practice writing body paragraphs in groups.
The paragraphs will be presented to the class. I will divide students into groups. Their materials include a poster and marker. Students write their paragraphs on the poster. These are hung on the board using tape or magnets.
Students are able to see multiple examples all at once. These paragraphs should be critiqued by the teacher to simply show students what is correctly written and what isn't.
This has always been an effective lesson! Good luck with your writing unit!
