Get your students moving and interacting with one another to explore the following essential questions:
1. What body parts do I have?
2. What can I do with these body parts?
3. How can I use the body parts to communicate?
This lesson is kinesthetic and auditory with literature connections (read alouds) and songs to make it engaging and incredibly fun. Depending on the knowledge level of the class it can easily be scaffolded up or down. This is also a great for ESL/EFL/ELL students at any age who are willing to be silly and have fun learning body part and action verb vocabulary.
The literature connections in this lesson include The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss and Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes by Mike Wohnoutka (or another book version of this song).
The activity and poster created during this lesson can then be used in independent centers throughout a unit on the body and/or ways people communicate.
Note: This lesson is can be taught as a stand alone lesson, but it is also part of a bundled lessons document titled Body Parts, Communication/Movement - Bundled Lesson Plans - Science, LA, Math. The bundled lesson plans are available for a discounted price compared to buying each lesson separately.
