This is an reading and set of questions that I like to use when I am doing the Christopher Columbus and European Explorers lessons. It is a reading that explains the American ways of life (NACIREMA is AMERICAN spelled backwards) It teaches students that this may be the way that other archaelogist's may think of Americans in thousands of years. It seems like the NACIREMA are savages in the reading, but really, they are just misunderstood. I relate this to the way Europeans looked at the natives in the Americas when they first met them. A great lesson for an observation and students are truly fooled while reading the worksheet until you tell them in the end to spell nacirema backwards!
