Product Description
This particular connection card activity (see strategy explanation below) requires students to make connections between various body systems. It requires students understand the interrelatedness of human body systems. Students must analyze the interrelatedness among the systems and use academic vocabulary to explain the interactions. Students often memorize anatomy and physiology and fail to conceptualize that memorization into actual understanding of how the body works together as a whole. This activity is aimed at helping students reach a higher level of understanding when it comes to body systems.

Based on feedback from buyers, I have included an advanced set of connection cards as well as an intermediate set.

Connection Card Strategy:
This learning strategy requires students make connections between various topics/vocabulary. Students truly begin to understand, comprehend, and remember vocabulary when they make connections to other words, content, and situations. This higher order thinking strategy also requires students to speak using academic vocabulary, which is a key component in helping English Language Learners comprehend science content as well as learn the English language. This strategy is an extremely effective vocabulary activity for all learners.

Materials:
• 1 set of cards per group of 3
• Sentence stems posted on board:
“Card A the ______ system connect to card B the ______ system because _____________.”
“Card B the ______ system does NOT connect to card B the ______ system because _____________.”

Procedure:
• Give each student group a set of cards.
• About half of the cards are labeled A and half B.
• Instruct students to turn the cards face down and make an “A” pile and a “B” pile.
