This is a rigorous and engaging argument constructed response (aka: extended response question) directly aligned to Next Generation Science Standard MS-LS1-3 (or 07-LS1-3 in Kentucky). This activity can be used as a summative assessment, classroom embedded assessment, or formative assessment. It can be performed individually or in groups. Students will review three different explanations and models, choose the correct one, and construct an argument based off of the information and what they've learned.
This activity is 3- dimensional – meaning it hits the Performance Expectation (structure and function), the Crosscutting Concepts (systems and models), and the Science and Engineering Practices (engaging in argument from evidence) for MS-LS1-3 that the NGSS strives to achieve.
