This activity hits on the major confusing concepts associated with body systems. All stations are hands on and some include short experiments. Be sure to check out the preview file to see what materials are necessary for the activity. Station one reviews the digestive system, especially the small intestine and absorption of nutrients. Station two reviews hormones and receptors. Station three reviews circulatory and respiratory systems, specifically how pulse rate increase is associated with exercise. Also how CO2 output increases with exercise. BTB is used as an indicator at this station. Station four reviews the nervous system, specifically stimulus response. Station five compares and contrasts egestion versus the excretory system. Station six reviews antigen and antibody interactions of the immune system. Station seven reviews regulation in plant cells specifically guard cells and stomata. Station eight involves failures of homeostasis including diabetes, allergies, organ rejection, ulcers, and heart attacks.
This activity includes a full answer key and teachers guide. The activity should take about 4 - 5 hours total to complete. It could be used as review, an introduction to body systems, or if you are really crunched for time hit on all body systems (that are important for NYS Regents LE curriculum).
