Hiya! My name is Miss Ida – like a spider.
I stressed ALL Christmas Break about a fast finisher activity for my Year 4 enrichment class that would stimulate their creativity, while also providing an opportunity to practice valuable literacy and numeracy skills. With one week left, I remembered a blog I had read which used the classic game Boggle as a starting point in literacy rotations. And then it happened…
Could I use this idea as a unique fast finisher?
I love word play, but knowing my students, they love mathematics. I adapted the point system to introduce not only addition and multiplication, but also data as students need to collate how many words of each value they had.
Display the 16 letters on a bulletin board in your room. The beauty of this resource is that the letters can be easily changed each week for a new and exciting opportunity. You can also set focus areas - for instance, a double score option for adverbs or homophones! It's a great way to also focus on key words from other KLAs.
The four simple rules are included, and are a great way to enhance your Boggle zone.
Each student has their own sheet to search for words, and needs to use the point system to calculate their final score.
In this pack, you will find everything you need to set up your own class Boggle for 3-6 students.
- a BOGGLE Brain Bender banner
- student worksheet
- rule stars
- 42 letters
- 18 letter squares to adhere your letters
- weekly record sheet
- championship poster
I have even developed a Championship system to highlight the highest three points scored! There is also a record sheet to display the top scorer from each week.
Please check out my other resources! I’m new to this, but love sharing my ideas.
