Students are to create a hoax/bogus webpage OR a strange but true webpage using Word or Google Docs. The assignment comes with links to similar sites and student exemplars.
Website design is not the main point, nor is disseminating false information. However, students spend one day just researching the hoaxes that do exist, and then they create their own in order to see the dangers of believing all that is published online.
An English course would use this for writing, research, and reading standards, but it can certainly be used in a social studies, science, or web design class, as well.
