This Power Point is a fun and engaging way to teach our young writers about how to begin their writings with a BANG! This is part 1 which includes bold beginning examples with video clips or book cover pictures with its intro.
The bold beginnings are:
#1 Single Word/Idea:
Sets off a short phrase or single
word, then gives more information. (Examples from: Itchy, Itchy Chicken Pox; Up, Up, Up!; It's Apple-Picking Time; Fast Food! Gulp, Gulp!)
A word or words that copies or emulates a sound.
(Examples from: Click Clack Moo Cows That Type; The Ear Book; 50 Below Zero)
The writer starts off with a question.
(Examples are from: Snow Day!; Hottest, Coldest, Highest, Deepest; Mr. George Baker)
At the end this PPT gives the opportunity for the students to review and complete a quick acitivity allowing you to do a "quick assess" of their understanding.
