PART 2: SUSPENSE/ACTION
This Power Point is a fun and engaging way to teach our young writers about how to begin their writings with a BANG! This is part 2 which includes bold beginning examples with video clips or book cover pictures with its intro.
The PPT goes over a quick review of the openers from Bold Beginnings Part1. #1 Single Word/Idea:
Sets off a short phrase or single
word, then gives more information.
A word or words that copy or emulate a sound.
The writer starts off with a question.
The next part of the PPT gains access to a students prior knowledge about the words, action and suspense.
There is a hyperlink for the definition for suspense and a sound bit for it as well.
Students are then asked to think of some words that show action.
There are 3 video clip examples of bold beginnings using the texts:
"Grandpa's Teeth," "Possum Magic," and "Just Plain Fancy."
At the end this PPT gives the opportunity for the students to (The teacher may want to model picking a topic and writing a quick action filled beginning depending on the needs of your children.
