Looking for a way to keep track of student writing practice during writer's workshop?
This file contains 5 versions of the writing process clip chart. Simply choose your favorite style from Chevron, Polka Dots, School Brights, Polka Dots with Grey, or Chalkboard Brights. Each style is bright, colorful and without clip art so that it can fit into ANY pre-existing classroom theme.
You get to choose from these phrasing options to build your chart according to your teaching terms: Pre-Write/Brainstorm, Draft/Write, Revise, Edit, Buddy Edit/Writing Conference, Publish.
To assemble, print in color on cardstock. Laminate for durability. Connect the pieces by hot glue, metal circle rings, ribbon, or yarn to make the ladder. In the past, the easier thing to do is to hang the chart from an area in your classroom, as opposed to applying it directly on the wall (where it’s flat). Another option is to attach it to a magnetic board and use student magnets that can be moved.
Make student trackers on clothespins using their names or numbers. Attach clips to the Pre-Write/Brainstorm section of the ladder. Teach students how to move their clip/magnet through the stages of the writing process as they move their piece through each step. This is a great tool for you as a teacher to monitor progress. It’s also very visual to help keep kids on track.
Alternatively, you can hang these as posters in your room just to have the writing process up and visible.
