PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This booklet is designed with the older struggling reader in mind. It is a no nonsense activity book without pictures. This is ideal for intensive phonics practice or for review and mastery assessment. Remember to apply the Rapid Automatic Naming protocol to learning and reviewing the words. Children should read and rapidly recognize these phonograms and word families with practice.

This book contains a collection of activities intended for use with children in Kindergarten (Prep) through 5th grade. It is even appropriate for use with adult reading students to help learn the long ā -ade word family. You can use this with the whole class or individual students, as well as in centers, small groups, as early finisher work or as homework. The activities vary in tasks and degree of difficulty to allow children with different learning styles to add to their strengths and develop their weaknesses. They are quick, reinforcing, and teach not just the word or phonogram. , Children need opportunities to use words they know and learn in sentences to truly absorb and process meaning. The Common Core links are on the back of the booklet. NOTE: Each of the word families will be reviewed in a more in-depth Review Booklet entitled System Phonics. This will provide practice with a comprehensive approach to phonics and phonograms for mastery. This is a no fail system for students if implemented systematically. There are over 275 booklets in this collection I am uploading. Word families with less than 10 words will be coupled with other smaller word families in an effort to maximize space and learning opportunity. I will also at the end of the comprehensive uploading of these booklets offer a Mega Bundle.

This is a print and fold with book staple book staple booklet. Pages are designed to be printed in order front to back. Place them together with the cover printed front to back on a colored paper. I use a different color for each book or one color for each similar vowel sound. These booklets are designed for individual student use.

A phonogram is a letter (or series of letters) that stands for a sound, syllable, syllable part (rime), or series of sounds. Phonograms are often referred to as word families. The words sunk, chunk, and trunk belong to the same word family because they contain the ending- unk. In these three words the ending -unk is a phonogram; it is also the rime.

Word families are groups of words that have a common feature or pattern - they have some of the same combinations of letters in them and a similar sound. For example, at, cat, hat, and fat are a family of words with the "at" sound and letter combination in common.
