Description

Kids are being raised by moms, grandmas, aunts or even sisters so the story pages are in those four versions. The term "Mother's Day" is not used anywhere in this book, so it can be used for other occasions such as birthday, get well gift, Grandparents Day, etc. as well as Mother's Day. Cover pages with different female graphics are included so kids can choose the cover that reminds them most of their mom/grandma/aunt/sister. It could also be made by a terminally ill child to give to female loved ones. Each finished book had a cover, 6 pages of text and drawings, and the sentence frame page.

I have set this resource up so it can used with TpT Digital Activities feature, at no extra cost. See below for ideas on how to use it if you are doing remote learning.

This is how I originally used this in person: First, I had the kids fill out the sentence frame page (sentences from all pages are on this page). Then kids copy the complete sentences neatly onto the actual pages and color. (The sentence frame page has a Spanish translation at the bottom in case any moms/mother figures speak Spanish. You have my permission to have it translated into other languages.) When they finished writing and coloring, we pasted pages onto colorful construction paper. Then I laminated all pages and published them with a binding machine. They turned out great!!!

Idea: If you have your class make these before Mother's Day (when many US schools have standardized testing) students can work on coloring the pages after taking the test when waiting for others to finish. Or you could have them color the pages while you read aloud to the class.

Distance Learning Option:

Here is an idea for how to still do this project if your class (or some of your students) are doing remote learning.

1. Have students complete the writing portion only during virtual lessons by typing in the text boxes using TpT Digital Activities.

2. The teacher can print the pages and assemble them into books.

3. Send home the books in special "secret" envelopes.

4. Provide time during virtual lessons for students to draw pictures and color the pages with crayons/markers.

5. Give to mom/aunt/grandma/sister on Mother's Day or whenever you decide.
