A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon is one of my favorite books! I love reading it with my First graders, and I also love reading it at home to my daughter (the cutie on the cover!).
This packet is great to use anytime, but I like to use it during the first month of school while we are all learning to get along and learning to accept others. It’s a great book to teach character (respect/caring). Back to School is the perfect time for this!
This packet includes the following:
*Story Sequencing Mini Booklet (First, Next, Then, After That, Last): Cut, Staple, Write, and Draw (with brainstorming page)
*Creative Writing: What would you do if you were covered in stripes?
*2 ideas for fun STRIPES bulletin boards (one for computer savvy friends, and one for less computer savvy friends)
*Class Graphing activity (Do you like Lima Beans?)
*Practice with Describing: Adjectives for Camilla
*Vocabulary Page: “fret” (Use as part of class discussion.)
*Compare/Contrast: Camilla’s first day of school worries Vs. My first day of school worries
